In your
search for the right car insurance policy, you'll
find that after the bare minimum required by your
state, there's a great deal of choice. If you're
currently insured, take a look at what your current
policies cover in terms of medical costs and property
and figure out how much you would have to pay if
you were wiped out completely. If you are a first
time insurer, compare the policies from a few providers
and take the average of the different amounts you've
identified. Purchase enough coverage to take care
of this amount in case of a disaster, and you'll
be fine no matter what comes your way.
Basic Auto Insurance Policies
Bodily
Injury Liability - This covers
the medical costs of those injured in an accident
you cause, as well as your legal costs if you're
sued.
Property
Damage Liability - This covers
the cost of damages you cause to someone else's
property, as well as legal costs should you
be sued.
Medical Payments Coverage - This covers the medical costs of the driver and passengers of the other car in an accident you cause.
Uninsured
Motorist Coverage - This takes
care of the car repair costs, your medical costs,
and the medical costs of your passengers should
you be hit by someone who does not have car
insurance.
Collision
Coverage - This pays the costs
of damages to your car if something other than
an accident happens to your vehicle, such as
vandalism or a natural disaster.
Personal Injury Coverage - This is much like medical payments coverage in that it covers your medical costs in the event of an accident.
